I received the Illuminati, connected, bonded, paired, with Samsung Galaxy S7, Android 7.0. (Latest version, no new updates are available on Android). Used briefly, but seemed to function well, in it’s current abilities in the app. Tried to use the device a day later, and eventually connected, but with some difficulty and lengthy, frustrating delay.
Since then, I have not been able to connect at all. I have tried everything I can think of. Unbonded, removed batteries, etc, on Illuminati. Have uninstalled app, restarted smartphone, re-installed app. There is no connection response whatsoever. With the 2nd app install, the app screen / bonding instructions from the Quickstart Guide are no longer there (no ‘Scan’ option, etc.) After selecting Devices, and refreshing, nothing happens except the spinning icon for awhile, but no connection.
Through Android Settings / Connections / Bluetooth, I was able to pair, but beyond that there is no communication.
I hope you can figure out the connection bugs before too many people receive their devices.

Could you please describe in details what is the status of the device
– does it play LED animation?
– is it visible via other apps eg Play link
If it is possible please send a screenshot with available services list.
Also if you can tell exact time when the error occurred we can check our server-side logs -
from @Ben on the Kickstarter page:
Just got my meter in today! But, I’m having trouble connecting the meter to my Android Nexus 5x and an old iPhone 5C. Any suggestions. I’ve tried restarting both phones. Turning on and off bluetooth. But it just isn’t being recognized my either device. Any help would be great. Thank you.

Try these things:
1. Erase any bonding information in both your meter and phone.
a. Meter – press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. At the end of this time the meter will flash magenta indicating bonding info is erased.
b. Phone – From settings, find Bluetooth and then display Bluetooth devices. You may see “Illuminati Meter”. Select it, and then “forget” it.
2. If you are using an Android phone, make sure location services is on.
3. What iOS version is running on the iPhone 5C? And Android version for Nexus 5x?

RudyG,
I had some problems like you have had. I’ve been working with Illuminati and what I found that works for me with the 0.8 Android software is that “Location” (i.e. GPS) MUST be turned on for Bluetooth to work. I don’t know why Location has to be enabled, but it apparently does (perhaps because some Bluetooth devices need GPS?).
Also, if you have ever gone into your Bluetooth settings and tried to connect from there, you HAVE TO “Forget” the Illuminati Meter’s connection before the Illuminati software will connect to the meter.
Finally, when the software DOES connect to the meter, you may get a pop-up asking to make a connection in Android’s Bluetooth settings. DO NOT do so. And, yes, it will ask you every time you start the Illuminati software. The same thing happens if you try the nRF and BLE Bluetooth scanning/diagnostic software. Except they WILL establish an Android connection that you will have to go into Android’s Bluetooth Settings and Forget.
I should note that some of these issues are Android and some are Illuminati…
In short:
1. Make sure that Location is turned on.
2. Make sure that you do not have any Android Bluetooth Settings connections for the Illuminati Meter.
3. Do not create an Android Bluetooth Settings connection when prompted to do so in the pop-up over the Illuminati software when it makes contact with your meter.
These steps allow me to make immediate (within about 5-10 seconds) and consistent connections to my meter. YMMV!
Hope this helps!
Scott
PS. I have a Pixel XL running Android 8.1.

Rudy,
Oops! I just reread the post I replied to and see that I missed the RudyG post was actually a repost from the Kickstarter page. Sorry.
I can see that we were posting at about the same time because I didn’t see your post while I was writing mine.
Anyway, I just hope it helps others that are having problems. I’ve been enjoying the meter since the connection problems have been figured out. I hope y’all will be able to get the video angle/fps stuff fixed soon so I can use it better for that.

I picked up my meter this morning on the way to a job and thought id have go at using it. I was able to bond no problem and meter the first three rooms but when i got to my fourth room to shoot it was flashing blue constantly and i could not get it to connect again so i gave up until i could look at properly after my job (tried restating meter and app and reomoved batteries). I then read the manual after the job and unbonded the meter and it connected again fine, i also turned my location on as it was previously off when i first bonded the meter. Then it did the blue flashing again for a second time and i had to unbond it and rebond it again but it does appear to be holding steady now. I can turn the meter on or off with the app on and it connects again and vise versa with the app closed and open and the meter still on and it connects.
But I am finding that if i turn on the meter before the app sometimes it wont connect to the app and i have to restart the app. Probably about one in every 5 or 6 times but it is a bit random.
If i start the app first then turn on the meter it seems to connect every time.
Anyway that has been my first day experience and i hope this info helps. My phone is a galaxy S7 with Android 7.0

@jeff-brislane, thanks for the detailed info about your experience – along with the phone model and Android version. We will use this in our debug.

@jeff-brislane – is the connection issue better with the latest release on Google Play?
-
What is the release number on the latest version of the software?
Thanks!

I received my meter last week an today I installed the App (Google Play Store Version 28.02.2018) on my Samsung Galaxy S7. The very first connection was successful. A second connection seems to be very random. So far I couldnt’t find reproducible patterns.
When closing app completely (via task manager) an switching off meter and the start meter an app, reconnecting was successful.
When closing app completely (via task manager) an switching off meter AND SWITCHING OF BLUETOOTH and the start meter an app (app asks to switch on BT), reconnecting was NOT successful.
A way I found to reconnect, was then to use the “unbond” function by pressing the power button for 10 seconds.
Any idea what causes this problems with Galaxy S7s? Is this problem also seen on other devices?
-
FWIW, when I checked yesterday on the Google Play store, the only version available is 0.12, not 0.2. do you have any idea when 0.2 will be available. I ask because a recent email said the software should be at 0.2.

As the OP on this thread, I’ve mostly set my Illuminati aside for the past couple of months, unable to connect on the few occasions I tried.
Using Samsung Galaxy 7 plus, Android 7.0
Today, I deleted the app from the device (again) and reset the Illuminati (10 second press). Re-installed the app from Google play. Connected to the meter via the app.
So far today, connecting and re-connecting has been successful and mostly seamless. GPS (location service) needs to be on sometimes, but not always. Turning off GPS after connection to meter does not seem (so far) to disrupt the connection. (Turning off GPS is desirable to avoid undue battery useage).
Hopefully connections continue smoothly, and improvements to the app continue. ?

I seem to be having repeated connection issues with my Note 8 (android) phone. Problems seem to come up when I name the meter using the application. In the settings for the phone I can see the meter is paired but the app can’t see it after it’s been named and then either the phone goes to sleep or the meter is powered off. I just delete the device from my bluetooth settings and reset the meter pairing and it will find it again.

I could not tell what version was on my phone and my google play app didnt list it as having an update so i deleted the app and reinstalled it again today and will let you know. It would be nice to know the app version in the about link in the app.
-
@jeff-brislane – I will add that for the next App version that is released. THANKS!
-
@rguttosch It’s Android 7.1.1
-
I’ve experimented more with this. In the devices panel – it shows as an unnamed meter which is fine with me since I only have one. When I try to name the device that’s when I have the problems with connectivity. If I leave it unnamed then I seem to be able to get easily reconnected both after restarts of the phone and after the meter times out and shuts itself down.
-
I have an Android- One plus 5.
My meter is practically unusable. It will not stay connected, any time I try to change the ISO, Shutter,or fstop settings in the meter it disconnects
-
I fired up one meter yesterday, renamed it and checked the K temp of some light bulbs. Today I took it on a job and it wouldn’t connect to my Samsung S7. When I got home I found this thread, read about not bonding it through bluetooth and fired up the “unnamed” meter, which worked. My first meter, “meter 1” will still not connect to my phone. It just worked the first time and that’s it. It did show up as a device and wanted to update, which I’m not sure if it did, but it doesn’t show up at all now.

Hi Craig – what is the bonding sate of the meter?
To check: on your phone, go to settings, Bluetooth. Is there an entry called “Illuminati Meter”? If so, please “forget” it.
On the meter when power is off, hold down the power button for 10 seconds. This will erase the bonding state in the meter.
Now that both devices have had their bonding states erased, please try to connect again.
Also please check [this post] for more info.
If you have tried all these things, then we should talk on the phone. Please send me an email at support-at-illuminatiinstruments-dot-com.
