Color Metering Inconsistent When Used With Flash

I’m having a problem with metering color temperature with the Illuminati Meter when using it with my studio flash. Sometimes, it gives me a color temperature reading and then, when I test fire again, I get no reading. It seems to be an issue with how powerful the studio flash is set. At full power, I usually get a reading but, as I reduce the flash power, I often get no reading. (These are studio units not speedlights.) I’m using the iOS app on my iPhone 8. Is there something I’m missing or is there an issue with the meter/app?

The meter will provide color temperature readings down to about F5 at ISO 100 and a standard flash sync speed (say 1/160 or 1/200 sec.) Simply take the meter reading a bit closer to the source to get the color temperature. For exposure, it will provide readings down to about F1.8 under the same conditions.
